Introduction:

I started this One-Name Study back in 1985 (I think). It developed out of a quest for more information on my own GANDER line - perhaps this may be how most One-Name Studies start, I don't know. It's been an absorbing hobby but now 35 years later, it's time for me to call it a day and the records will now be archived with the Guild of One-Name Studies, an organisation I've been a member of for many years. Maybe one day someone else can find my collection of records useful and continue research into the name.

Name Origins:

I doubt we'll ever know for sure where and how the GANDER surname originated in Britain where surnames gradually came into general use about the 14th century. More on the possibilities can be found on another page.

Records:

On this website you'll find some fairly extensive records which may help you if you have GANDER / GANDAR forebears. For a long time - and whilst researching - I avoided placing actual family trees on these pages, other than my own line. However, I now have attached GEDCOM files of those trees and other individual records that I accumulated. You'll find these at a Downloads page - but please read the notes first!
